In this article you will learn:

What is a date link between a checklist item and the end date of a planning object?

A checklist can be created for a planning object (task, milestone). A checklist item can be linked to the end date of its parent planning object. Consequently, the date of the checklist item is synchronized with the end date of the planning object if it is changed. This option is particularly helpful during the planning phase of a project. After linked checklist items have been synchronized with the planning object, the data of the checklist items can be manually adjusted afterwards if necessary.

Only if a checklist item has the status Planned can it be linked to the end date of its parent planning object.
The link is automatically removed as soon as the status of the checklist item is set to In progress.

How can I link the date of the checklist item to the end date of a planning object?

Which checklist items are linked to the planning object also depends on how checklist items are used methodically.

Where can the date of a checklist item be linked to the end date of a planning object?

A link can be created in the following locations:

  • Focus card of the planning object - Three-dot menu for the checklist item

  • Focus card of the checklist item - Three-dot menu in the title bar of the focus card

Link in the focus card of the planning object

  • Open the focus card of the planning object

  • Navigate to the checklist item

  • Click on Link to end date in the three-dot menu

The two dates are linked. The end date of the planning object is transferred to the checklist item and displayed in gray. This means that it cannot be edited.

If the checklist item already has a date, this is overwritten with the end date of the planning object.

Note - Planning object without end date

The checklist item is also linked to the planning object if it does not have an end date. In this case, no date is displayed in the date field for the checklist item. As soon as the planning object is assigned an end date, this is transferred to the checklist item.

Link in the focus card of the checklist item

  • Open the focus card of the checklist item by clicking on it in the checklist

  • Click on Link to end date in the three-dot menu

The end date of the planning object is transferred to the checklist item and displayed in gray. This means that it cannot be edited.

If the checklist item already has a date, this is overwritten with the end date of the planning object.

Changing the status of a checklist item

If, during the processing phase of a linked checklist item, its status is changed from Planned to In progress, its date field becomes active again and the date can be changed. This may be necessary if, for example, the checklist item is to be implemented by a certain date.

In addition, an editable date is helpful if a status update is to be given for the checklist item.

Note - Changing the status of the checklist item

When the status of a linked checklist item changes, the date link is not removed, but it is no longer active. As soon as the status of the checklist item is set to Planned again, it is reactivated.

How can I remove a date link?

A date link can be explicitly removed in the focus card of the plannig object or in the focus card of the checklist item.

  • Open the focus card of the planning object or of the checklist item

  • Open the respective three-dot menu and click on Unlink from end date

The link between the end date of the planning object and the checklist item is removed.

In the checklist item, the end date remains in the Date field and can be edited.

How can I take over a date link?

In the following cases, a checklist and thus a date link can be transferred to a project or planning object.

In these cases, the planned values for the start and/or end date are copied and transferred during data transfer.

The values that are available in the In progress status are not copied and are not transferred if they differ from the planned values.

If no planned values are available, then no start and end date is transferred. No date is displayed in the date field of the checklist item.

The transfer of the date link remains unaffected by this.
